Reading Lamps

Reading lamps provide an extra amount of light that helps reduce the eye strain that causes headaches. A lack of good light or too much contrast in a room causes eye muscles to overwork themselves trying to focus on the material at hand. To alleviate this problem, it is recommended that localized light from an overhead source such as an LED reading lamp be used. While standards should be maintained, not all people need the exact same amount of light for reading. In situations like these, a 3 way 150 watt reading lamp can be the perfect addition to a study or den. Light can then be adjusted to the necessary levels, reducing the amount of contrast that causes headaches.

To be effective, light from a reading lamp should come from behind a person’s left shoulder if they are right-handed or their right shoulder if they are left-handed. Reading floor lamps sitting behind a chair or section of sofa is a perfect option. In a study area, a light source should be positioned right over the material being read. There are a number of different types of reading lamps for every style, preference and purpose. For example, in the case of light sources by Verilux, bright table lamps can come in a number of styles while providing a dose of full spectrum light that mimics that of natural sun. For those situations where an overhead light source is not available, a handy clip on gooseneck reading lamp that attaches right on to the book can be a wonderful solution.

One of the most popular reading spots is in bed, making a good bedside reading lamp a necessary accessory. The good news is decorative reading lamps for bedrooms are easily found. Any style from antique to contemporary offer the perfect 60-100 watts needed to make a comfortable reading spot. Even in bed, a reading lamp still needs to deliver light from overhead or at least over the shoulder. There are many lamps with features that make this possible. A headboard reading lamp slips over or uses a clamp to attach itself to the bed behind the reader, delivering a perfect level of light. Reading lamps for a bedroom can serve a double purpose also, such as the reading lamp and alarm clock combination. A clock radio reading lamp is a novel item that combines to appliances into one, saving a good amount of room on a bedside table.
