Piano Lamps

One handy light source that has a very specific use is the piano lamp. Back in the day, people used the ever so dramatic candelabra atop the piano for light. As this is obviously no longer the case, now piano lamps come in all sizes and finishes. With elongated hoods to protect from glare, piano lamps focus light expressly on the music being played and the keyboard. The performer is more than able to clearly see the material that is being played. It also adds a nice decorative touch to the piano itself. There are a number of finishes that can accentuate a piano’s exterior color. Whether it’s an antique brown piano lamp, an adjustable shiny brass piano lamp or a piano lamp in black with rustic accents, this type of light source will always have a beautiful effect when perched atop such a wonderful instrument.

When looking for a lamp for a piano, one will find everything form antique piano lamps to the traditional brass piano lamps. Although it is the antique piano lamp that generally comes to mind, many modern options are available. Clamp piano lamps are a handy option that attaches right to the piano or even the sheet music itself. They also serve a double purpose. As their name suggests, piano desk lamps can be used on the desk or the piano; or on the desk when not being used on the piano. They provide a perfect amount of focused light and can be just the thing for banishing headaches that come with working in low-light study and reading areas.

A shelf style piano lamp has a heavy base for stability and sometimes an adjustable neck. Although many lamps are powered by electricity, smaller and more compact piano lamps can also be battery powered. This can be useful in travel situations where practice or playing must take place in a number of different settings. There will be no need for an electrical outlet and there fore there will also be no troublesome cord to unravel or drag around. As a cost effective measure, most units come with a handy battery charger. In general, those lamps powered by electricity use up to two 40 watt light bulbs but LED and halogen lights and are also an option. Both options are brighter and do away with the yellow cast of regular bulbs. They also tend to last longer.
